Training Camp: Wednesday, July 27th

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

Day one of Packers Training Camp officially started on Wednesday morning. With the losses of Davante Adams, Equanimeous St. Brown, Marquez Valdes Scantling, among offensive lineman such as Lucas Patrick and Billy Turner, all eyes were on how the Packers new offense would look. The would-be "replacements" for these players Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Samori Toure, Zach Tom, Sean Rhyan, Rasheed Walker and several undrafted free agents are not really as much "replacements" as they are "additions". When GM Gutekunst was asked before practice about acquiring a veteran receiver, his answer is what you would expect from someone trying to infuse confidence in their young, inexperienced receiving corp.

From the first offensive play to the last, the receivers were showing out and making plays — and incredible catches!

UDFA Danny Davis made a couple of nice grabs. He is a fan-favorite, having played college ball for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Juwann Winfree was definitely a stand out player from today's practice. This was one of several catches that he made. This is not new territory for him — the question is, can he show this throughout camp and into the season (assuming he makes the roster)?

Lazard is taking full advantage of his opportunity to be WR1. Here, he uses his 6'5" frame to make a catch over Adrian Amos.

Jordan Love also made some nice throws today. He seemed more decisive and was putting much more power into his throws.

After many had expected (reasonably so) for the defense to completely stymie the new-look offense, that was by no means the case. That is not to discredit the work of what many are anticipating to be an elite-caliber defense, but rather a testament to the way that the offense was vibing.

After an early exit from the playoffs last season, I am feeling hopeful again after the news from day one of training camp. We'll have to wait until tomorrow for another day of practice, but in the meantime, "GO, PACK, GO!" 🧀
